The core of air purifiers lies in the filter technology, which directly determines the effect of air purification. Today, I will give you a detailed introduction to the 5 common air purifier filter technologies.

1. HEPA filter technology HEPA filter is a high-efficiency air filter, which is widely used in many fields, such as biological laboratories, hospital operating rooms and other places with extremely high requirements for air cleanliness. It is interwoven with fine organic fiber materials, with extremely small pores, and has super strong filtering ability for dust with very small diameters. The filtration efficiency for pollutants of 0.3 microns is as high as 99.97%, and particles like those in cigarettes can basically be intercepted. 


2. Activated carbon filter technology After special treatment, the activated carbon has a strong adsorption capacity. In air purifiers, it is mainly used to remove pollutants such as formaldehyde, ozone, and TVOC. The adsorption principle is to use its own developed pore structure to allow air pollutant molecules to be adsorbed into the pores. 

3. Electrostatic electret filter technology This is an upgrade of HEPA technology. It uses non-woven fabric loaded with electrostatic electret to collect dust, which has the advantages of low wind resistance, high efficiency, high dust holding capacity, and is relatively safe. In the filtration process, in addition to the traditional interception, inertial collision and diffusion effects, particulate matter can also be captured by the electret electric field.

4.negative ion technology Negative ion technology mainly releases negative ions through static electricity, which can absorb and concentrate dust in the air to play a role in dust reduction. At the same time, it has the effect of ionizing oxygen in the air into ozone, which has a certain killing effect on bacteria. When the concentration of negative ions in the air reaches a certain level, it can make tiny particles condense into larger particles, which are more easily captured by other filters or filtering technologies of the air purifier, thereby improving the purification effect. However, it should be noted that negative ion technology may produce a certain amount of ozone. If the ozone concentration is too high, it will have an adverse effect on human health, so when using it, ensure that the amount of ozone produced is within a safe range.

5.photocatalyst technology Photocatalyst is a material that uses semiconductors to produce strong oxidizing free radicals under light irradiation, which can effectively decompose various pollutants and kill microorganisms. In air purifiers, photocatalysts are usually coated on filters or other carriers. When exposed to light, it produces a strong oxidizing effect, decomposing organic pollutants such as formaldehyde, benzene, TVOC in the air into harmless carbon dioxide and water. It can also destroy the cell membranes of bacteria and viruses, playing a role in sterilization and disinfection. However, photocatalyst technology is relatively rarely used in air purifiers because it needs to be exposed to ultraviolet light to work best, and the intensity of ultraviolet light in the home environment is usually not enough, and long-term exposure to ultraviolet light may cause harm to the human body.
